Reflections Of The Past Year

This past November marked one year since I first started working on the Archivorum Ark project- and what a year it’s been!

Collaborating with Belén Uriel to build her archive has been such a joy and has truly shown me how important it is to capture not just her art but the story behind it—her process, personality, and intentions. We’ve focused on documenting small yet meaningful details, from her studio spaces to her journals and inspiration images. These elements bring her world to life and help future researchers understand her work.

A major highlight was conducting interviews with Belén, which allowed us to preserve her insights in her own words. These conversations were casual and authentic, offering a true glimpse into her thoughts and evolution as an artist. It also brought an understanding of balancing accessibility with respecting her privacy, leading to a responsible archive.

This year also reminded me of why I became an archivist- My childhood love of collecting evolved into a passion for preserving stories and legacies, and working on this archive has brought that full circle. I’ve been reminded that archives are not just about materials—they’re about connection. One of the biggest takeaways has been learning how digital and physical archives can complement each other. While digital archives provide accessibility, they can’t replace the experience of seeing art in person. Instead, they enhance understanding by providing deeper context—like capturing the light and texture of Belén’s glasswork. Collaboration has been another central theme. From working with Belén to exchanging ideas with my fellow Archivorum archivists, I’ve seen how much teamwork enriches this process- Sharing our experiences has turned this work into a shared journey.

Reflecting back on the last year of Archivorum Ark. I'm very grateful for the opportunities and experiences I've had while working on Belen's archive. Here's to more great times and good work!

Looking ahead, I’m excited to conclude building the archive and working closely with Belén for our critical publication. This will be a chance to showcase the depth of her work and the collaborative process behind the archive. I look forward to creating something that reflects her vision while connecting with new audiences.
