Tracing Inspiration- A look at the inventory and process of Belen Uriel’s Archive

Last week, Archivorum had the pleasure of displaying and presenting the work of Archivorum Ark at Art Genève. While I could not be in attendance (more on that later), I was thrilled to create a video discussing the work on Belén Uriel’s archive. While this experience has been a deeply engaging and reflective process, this video captures my journey as I navigate through her body of work, uncovering the layers of thought, materiality, and history embedded within it.

In the discussion, I explore the challenges and rewards of archival work—how preserving an artist’s legacy requires both careful documentation and a sensitivity to the ephemeral nature of creative practice. As I sift through Belén’s pieces, I find myself considering the intersection of memory, material, and interpretation, recognizing how each choice shapes the way her work will be understood in the future.

The process is not just about organization; it’s about storytelling. Each artifact, whether physical or digital, holds a narrative waiting to be pieced together. Through this archival journey, I reflect on the impact of time on an artist’s work and how preservation is as much an act of engagement as it is of protection.

This video serves as a window into that ongoing effort—a conversation about what it means to document, preserve, and interpret an artist’s legacy. I look forward to sharing more insights as this work continues.
